Managing Life as a Multi-hyphenate Woman

Many of you have asked me to give the rundown on how I manage to do all that I do in a single day and let me just say the amount of multitasking I do is not for the weak. Managing my day-to-day involves a blend of science-backed productivity techniques, intentional planning, and the art of flexibility. The biggest hack to make everything I do happen consistently boils down to having a supportive spouse and village.

While I fully understand that having a partner in life and a supportive village is a privilege, there are ways everyone can benefit from crafting a life rooted in balance and structure to get things done, support in-house or not. There are good days and bad days for me, but the upside to it all is that my life is as complex as it is fulfilling, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Within my whirlwind of roles and responsibilities, mastering the balance between professional endeavors and personal life can often be an elusive goal. As a wife, mother, project manager in the fashion industry, content creator, and business owner specializing in personal branding and lifestyle design, my days culminate in varied demands and joys. The questions on how I navigate my busy life are frequent, and in truth, the balance is an ever-shifting dynamic that can often be attributed to the support of my spouse.

Weekdays: The Balance of Parenthood and Professional Life

Weekdays are meticulously organized for me, with each part of my schedule working together to maintain balance. While no day runs exactly the same, I do my best to maintain a structured schedule that is adaptable to life's unpredictability.

Early Morning Routine

I will be honest; 5:45 am is more like 6:15 a.m., depending on what the night before looked like and the number of times I hit snooze lol. My day begins in the quiet hours of the morning when my son is still asleep, and the possibilities of the current day feel endless because there is downtime and quiet. This is when I ground myself in different gratitude, prayer, and visualization practices, setting the tone for the day ahead. It's a moment to align with my personal and professional goals and prime my mind for productivity and creativity. The early mornings are a time reserved for me. Whether through prepping content to post for the day, a morning stretch, or enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, these moments help me center myself and set the tone for the day ahead.

Professional Responsibilities

As a full-time project manager in the fashion industry, my role requires creativity, decisiveness, and meticulous attention to detail. Effective time management is critical to success. I adhere to a distinct work schedule with clear communication and boundaries to balance work and family life. A typical workday involves checking in with my team, setting daily priorities, and diving into emails, meetings, and project timelines. My role is fast-paced and demands creative and analytical skills—balancing creativity with logistics is a skill I’ve honed over time.

My daily schedule must include dedicated no-meeting periods for deep focus and breaks to recharge and connect with my toddler. I’ve found the importance of stepping away for a midday break; it's not just about eating but also mental and physical reset. Sometimes, it's a short playtime session and other times, it's a quick run to the grocery store, Target or Sephora. This break also provides a moment to touch base briefly with my family, myself, and my personal brand and business, setting tasks and objectives for later in the day.

Parenting and Family Time

Parenting demands both strategy and spontaneity. Unless my schedule conflicts, I own getting my son ready to take on the day. My husband usually owns what I like to call the mid-morning shift, where he makes breakfast, and owns morning playtime outdoors in between his work calls. Throughout the day, we share the responsibilities of weaving in learning and quality time with our toddler while the other is occupied with projects or meetings. There are days when we are blessed to enjoy shared breakfasts, discussing our goals for the day without our conflicting schedules standing in the way.

Maintaining a structured yet flexible routine helps me balance my roles and responsibilities effectively. And also having a support system and work environment that supports me being the best parent that I can be while also owning

Weekends: Crafting Content and Creating Value

During the weekends, my focus shifts to creating content, developing online courses and email campaigns, designing graphics and printable resources, and curating journal content. Unlike the structured weekdays, weekends allow for a more dynamic approach to creativity and work.

I plan specific times for filming, writing, and course development. However, weekends are not exclusively for work. They also provide chances for engaging with my family in these processes. For instance, involving my toddler in filming for more engaging content or discussing ideas during family walks bridges my personal and professional life.

The key is planned yet flexible scheduling, which enables unplanned, inspired moments. Even though I allocate time for certain activities, unplanned events with my family or sudden bursts of inspiration often lead to the most genuine and captivating content.

I rely on technology and a support team where necessary to stay productive. This allows me to automate routine tasks and focus more on content that benefits from my direct input or requires thoughtful planning. Weekends also serve as a time for reflection and planning, ensuring a smooth transition into the upcoming week.

Balancing It All

The essence of managing this multifaceted life lies in understanding that balance is not a static state but a continuous, dynamic process. It requires being present in the moment, whether that moment is a deadline-driven project, an impromptu tea party with my toddler, or a quiet hour spent in the alchemy of content creation.

Ultimately, it's about making conscious choices—choosing which balls to juggle, which to pass to someone else, and which to put down altogether, at least temporarily. It’s understanding that perfection is not the goal; meaningful engagement, love, and fulfillment are.

For those of you balancing numerous responsibilities, understand that the balance we aim for isn't found in the absence of responsibilities but rather in the rich, complex lives we lead. It's about creating something beautiful and harmonious from all the different aspects of our everyday lives.
