Bryon Javar x Banana Republic
This past February, I had the honor of moderating a fireside chat with the remarkable celebrity stylist Bryon Javar during an inspiring event hosted by Banana Republic at their Melrose flagship store. The event was part of the brand’s Black History Month celebrations on the West Coast, designed to honor Black excellence and creative contributions to the fashion industry and beyond.
Sharing space with Bryon Javar, whose work as a stylist, creative director, designer, and image maker has influenced so many, was a transformative experience. As we sat down under the vibrant atmosphere of the Melrose store, with music curated by the talented DJ Asia Shabazz and delicious hors d’oeuvres by Chef Kayla Greer, there was a palpable sense of celebration and connection in the air. There was so much Black joy and love in the air. The audience was filled with beautiful faces, each person there to soak in the stories, wisdom, and energy that Bryon exuded.
Leading the conversation, I was struck by Bryon’s authenticity as he recounted his journey — from his early days navigating the fashion world to becoming a sought-after name in celebrity styling. His story is filled with resilience, innovation, and an unwavering belief in the power of vision and creativity. Hearing firsthand how he embraced challenges and transformed them into stepping stones for success was moving. Bryon’s words resonated deeply with me, not just as a professional in the industry but as a creative individual always seeking to elevate my craft.
Being part of this event meant more than moderating a conversation; it symbolized what it means to be included in spaces that celebrate Black voices, stories, and artistry. Being entrusted with guiding such an important dialogue was humbling, and it reminded me of the responsibility and privilege that comes with sharing and amplifying stories that inspire others.
I left that day not only inspired by Bryon’s journey but also motivated by the collective energy of everyone present. It was a powerful reminder of why community and representation matter. Banana Republic's support, including donations to impactful organizations like the Boris L. Henson Foundation and the Bahati Foundation, reinforced the event’s deeper purpose—celebrating Black history while investing in our future.
Reflecting on this moment, I am so honored and grateful for opportunities that allow us to come together, learn from one another, and celebrate the multifaceted stories that shape who we are. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the importance of leading with authenticity, fostering meaningful conversations, and embracing the power of shared stories to inspire and uplift.
